On August 23, Duquesne police detained a student who told a professor he had a gun, Public Affairs reported.
Around 2 p.m., the professor approached a student who was wearing a “green Army-style jacket,” according to a statement obtained by the The Duke. The statement said that the student’s hand was inside the jacket, and a “black item” was visible, attached to his belt. When the professor questioned the student, the student said he had a gun.
The professor alerted Duquesne police, who then responded and detained the individual. The student revealed to police that he did not have a gun and that the object was in fact a medical device.
Duquesne police are questioning the student and have determined that there is no threat to campus.
