Duquesne football loses to Youngstown State

The Duquesne Dukes lost to Youngstown State on September 21, 59-17 despite impressive efforts by quarterback Dillon Buechel and receivers Gianni Carter and Chris King. Dillon Buechel was named the NEC Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. Buechel is the first Duke to win this award multiple times since Larry McCoy won the award three times in 2009.

Buechel threw for 362 yards and completed 21-of-38 passes. This season, Buechel has thrown 966 yards with 5 touchdowns in his first three college games as a freshman.

Also worth mentioning, receivers Carter and King both received over 100 yards. Carter caught a 63-yard touchdown pass, and he has had at least one touchdown reception in each of the past three games. Despite Duquesne’s strong offensive efforts, Youngstown State scored 21 points in the fourth quarter of the game to seal the deal.

On Saturday Oct. 5 the Dukes will take on West Liberty (2-2) at 12:10 for their first home game since August 31.

Men’s soccer ends four game losing streak

The Duquesne Dukes ended a four game losing streak on September 29 with a 1-0 win over St. Francis. Duquesne was outshot by St. Francis 13-9, however a strong pass from Karter Sell to Austin Lange turned the game around for the Dukes.

Lange scored his first goal of the season after 80 minutes of scoreless play. In fact, this was Lange’s first collegiate game winning goal. Goalie Sam Frymier also had a strong showing due to his five saves. This is Frymier’s fifth shutout of the season.

The team will be traveling to La Salle on October 11 for their first Atlantic 10 game of the season. The game will take place at 7:00 pm.
