Brendza’s beat: Mumford hiatus, ADTR lawsuit and fancy PGH

Mumford hiatus

Oh how the mighty have … well it isn’t exactly a fall, I suppose? Mumford and Sons have played their last show, “for the forseeable future.” In Kansas, of all places. Strange

This coming from keyboardist Ben Lovett, Sept. 20 in Bonner Springs was ta-ta for now, according to Rolling Stone.

“I don’t think we’ve had actually much time in the process to be with other people and living a life outside of the band. I think that’s what’s in place at the moment, to do very little – especially when it comes to Mumford & Sons,” Lovett told the magazine last week.

Alright all you Mumford & Sons chicken littles out there. The sky is not falling. Mumford will most likely return at some point. They’re probably just a little burnt out from touring and what not.

But you wouldn’t know what fatigue feels like because you’re all superpeople, right? Any whoozle, it’s so long for now for Mumford. But not forever, I don’t think.

A Day To Remember, or forget

“I’m not going to allow someone to sit on my career and ruin what may be our best album for people. Fans want our music.” These are the words of ADTR frontman Jeremy McKinnon.

ADTR is currently in a legal battle with their label, or perhaps now past label, Victory Records. They have recorded, mixed and mastered their new album Common Courtesy, now complete with preorders of their website, with an “estimated” release of Oct. 8. Currently “estimated” because of Victory Records attempt to block their new release.

From a Property of Zack article from 2011, it basically comes down to a battle of he said, she said, between the two. ADTR claims they have fulfilled their five album contract, blah blah blah. Victory is claiming that ADTR has sold merch illegally on the internet blah, blah, blah.

At the moment, there seems to be no resolution between the two. They just seem to be a middle-age couple who’s marriage has lost its flame and is seeking divorce.

But for that to happen, somebody’s got to give in. And somebody’s got to get that summer house at the lake.

Pittsburgh performances

The seasons come and go, but for the most part, Pittsburgh usually (I said usually, not all the time) has good concerts that come through year round.

Justin Timberlake, Drake, MGMT, Nine Inch Nails and City and Colour are all coming to Pittsburgh this fall and or winter. But isn’t there more to life?

If I asked myself that question, the answer would be yes, and WWE RAW is Oct. 7, but that’s beside the point.

Pittsburgh has a great arts and theater presence with some really great performance coming through. Grammy awarding cellist Yo-Yo Ma will perform with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra Friday. Critically acclaimed play The Lion King is still in town until Sunday.

If those don’t tickle your fancy, the PSO will perform The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses Second Quest Oct. 8. Buddy and co. will be here Nov. 26 to Dec. 1 with Elf. We Will Rock You, the Queen inspired musical, will make an appearance Oct. 29 to Nov. 3.

If those don’t work for you, Jerry Seinfeld is doing two stand-up shows Sat., Oct 5.

Let’s cut to the chase: concerts are great, but sometimes you gotta class it up. Above are a few events that do that. Like drinking tea with your pinky out. Classy.
